Yvonne Hinson-Rawls

Yvonne Hinson-Rawls was born, raised and educated in Gainesville. She is a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1965 and The University of Florida with a B.A.E. in Special Education in ’71 and an M.A.E. in Special Education in’73. She has been a teacher, counselor, diagnostic placement specialist, assistant principal and principal. She has also owned a small business, Childstart Learning Solutions. Yvonne has two children and four grandchildren. She enjoys reading, traveling, gardening and shopping.

Yvonne was elected on January 31, 2012 for a three year term by the residents of District 1. She took the oath of office on May 17, 2012. Before the election Yvonne served the community as a Zone Coordinator for the Obama Campaign, Precinct 28 as the Committeewoman, Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee as Membership Chair and the Gainesville Housing Authority as the Finance Chair.

Commissioner Hinson-Rawls is Chair of the Public Safety Committee. She also serves on the Equal Opportunity Committee, Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency, Gainesville/Alachua County Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization, and the Library Governing Board.
