Visual Arts in Gainesville


There are eight art galleries in Gainesville, which are sponsored by several different groups. The Thomas Center, Santa Fe College, the University of Florida and the City of Gainesville are among the top sponsors of these galleries.

Thomas Center Galleries
The Thomas Center Galleries exhibition programs are free of charge and open to the public. The Thomas Center Galleries are located at 302 NE 6th Ave. in Gainesville. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m. The galleries are closed Sundays and during observed holidays. Tench Building Art Studios
This site has several open houses yearly to display works of the artists housed in the studios here. The City maintains these studios to rent to local artists who need space at a low monthly rate.

Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art

The
Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art collection currently consists of more than 7,000 works of art in various media. A vigorous acquisitions campaign is ongoing with an emphasis on Asian, African, modern American and European, and international contemporary art, as well as photography.


Santa Fe Galleries

The Santa Fe Gallery was the first community college gallery in the nation to be approved by the National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian Institution for loans of high security exhibitions. Contemporary exhibits of regional and national artists are on display.
