Monitoring is an important part of managing natural areas. Baseline documentation of the plant communities and wildlife populations help us know what changes are occurring to the ecosystem, while careful monitoring following land management activities tell us whether our management is having the desired results. Natural Resource Management staff monitor listed species populations, conduct bird counts during various parts of the year, map gopher tortoise burrows, conduct plant inventories, and take repeated photopoints at specific locations, all to ensure that we’re effectively protecting the plants and animals in our City’s natural areas.
