As a City of Gainesville employee, you are eligible for:

  • Voluntary supplemental life insurance with a guaranteed issue of $100,000 or an optional benefit up to the lesser of 5 times an employee's annual salary or $500,000
  • Optional accidental death and dismemberment insurance
  • Employer subsidized health insurance programs.  City pays 60% of premium for family health insurance
  • Dental, vision, short-term disability and voluntary life insurance programs at reasonable group rates

The City of Gainesville offers employees financial security during retirement through:

  • Defined Benefit Pension plans with vesting after 5 years (10 years for Police and Fire).  Full retirement eligibility upon completion of 25 years of credited service, regardless of age
  • 457 Plan offering tax deferred savings opportunities and ROTH IRA Plan available

  • Direct deposit of pay 
  • Personal Fitness Equipment/Services - the City will finance the purchase of fitness equipment/services up to $3,000 interest-free for up to three years
  • Flexible Medical Spending Account - gives you the opportunity to set money aside on a pre-tax basis for certain health care expenses not reimbursed by another health plan
  • Flexible Dependent Child Care Reimbursement Account - gives you the opportunity to set money aside on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualifying depending child care expenses
