Gainesville Crime Trends

At the March 19, 2009 City of Gainesville Commission meeting Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) representatives expressed concern about budget reductions at the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) and rising crime rates within the City. The GPD budget has actually increased during the five-year period from 2005 through 2009. From 2006 through 2008, crime rates have decreased in 8 of 9 tracked categories and the GPD violent crime clearance rate has improved from 44% in 2007 to 61% in 2008. Public safety continues to be a top priority of the City of Gainesville. The following information is provided by the City to insure that citizens have access to reliable, accurate information.
