Political Signs in the City
The City of Gainesville Code of Ordinances Section 30-317 provides the specifics pertaining to temporary political signs.

In a residential zoned single family neighborhood:
Non-illuminated political signs cannot exceed six (6) square feet in size. The top of the signs are to be no higher than four (4) feet from the ground.  The signs are to be set back a minimum of ten (10) feet from the side of the yard.

In non-residential districts:
One (1) non-illuminated political sign is allowed for each parcel.  The sign cannot exceed an area of thirty-two (32) square feet.  The top of the sign cannot be higher than eight (8) feet from the ground. The sign is to be set back a minimum of fifteen (15) feet from the side of the property.

Vision Triangle Obstructions:
Signage is to be on private property, remote of intersection so as not to impede the view of oncoming traffic.

Public Right-of-Way:
Signs on a public right-of-way are not permitted.  Such signs are subject to being removed and retained by the enforcing officer if space permits.  Signage that is collected by Code Enforcement may be retrieved provided they have not been discarded and provided a civil citation notification of the violation is served.

Removal of Signs:
Signs are required to be removed no more than three (3) days after the election.  Failure to do so shall constitute a violation of this code and could result in enforcement action by the City of Gainesville Code Enforcement Division.

The City of Gainesville Code Enforcement Division is available to receive complaints regarding violations of this ordinance at (352) 334-5030, or by email at codes@cityofgainesville.org.
