City Auditor


brent_head.jpgBrent Godshalk was appointed City Auditor by the Gainesville City Commission in November 2004.  Brent graduated in 1981 "With Honors" from the University of Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.  He began his professional career in a public accounting firm based in Orlando, Florida before coming to the City Auditor's Office in 1982.  He has previously served in the City Auditor's Office as Financial Auditor, Financial/EDP Auditor and, since 1989, as Assistant City Auditor. Brent is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).  He is an active member of the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the Florida Audit Forum (FAF) and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA).  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Audit Forum and the North Central Florida Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.  He can be contacted by e-mail at godshalkbl@cityofgainesville.org.

Professional Staff

Assistant City Auditor Eileen Marzak has been with the City of Gainesville since 1986. Prior to joining the City, Eileen spent eight years working for small and regional public accounting firms providing tax, auditing and consulting services.   Eileen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Florida and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA), Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA).   Eileen is an active member of the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) and The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). She currently serves as Secretary for the North Central Florida Chapter of the IIA and is a member of the Survey Committee for ALGA. Assistant City Auditor Michelle Torma has worked for the City of Gainesville since 1995. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management from Albion College and a Masters in Public Administration from Oakland University. Michelle started her career as an internal auditor in the healthcare sector before moving to the retail sector. Her last position prior to joining the City was at Kmart Corporation as Supervisor of the International Headquarters Corporate Audit Division where she worked for several years. She currently serves as President for the North Central Florida Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Michelle is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) , Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP), Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and is a Certified Internal Control Auditor (CICA). Senior Auditor Brecka Anderson joined the City of Gainesville in 2008.  She received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Marketing from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS.  Brecka began her career in Internal Auditing at the University of Florida. Prior to that, she worked as a Field Auditor for General Electric and Deutsche Financial Services.  Brecka is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP).  She is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and is a member of the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA).  She can be contacted by email at andersonbh@cityofgainesville.org.
